Description

Notes: Unless it was enclosed in an envelope, this card did not pass through the mail. The dating of this card is very difficult to determine. Hugh C. Leighton’s company combined with Valentine in 1910. The logo on this card demonstrates that it was manufactured after that point. The publisher – J. E. Jenison – may have had some subsidiary relationship to Leighton-Valentine. In any event, there are very few of these cards marked by this publisher. One – of a moonlit scene in Newport, R.I – was sent through the postal system in 1913. In any event, the assumption is that Grace was writing in anticipation of visiting Nantucket in the summer of 1914. This trip is confirmed by the entry in the "Personals" published in the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror on September 5, 1914.

Publisher

Pub. By J.E. Jenison, Providence, R.I. B.Y. & Co.
