Notes: One cumulative impression to be drawn from these cards is the dawning historical sensibility of the age. People looked around and saw vestiges of the past that they wished to capture in images. This sensibility doesn’t necessarily translate into architectural preservation, however. Layfayette’s House (to my knowledge) didn’t get the special treatment that eventually Slater’s Mill would. So, clearly, Olney’s in the service as of this date. Compare Emma’s card to this one published by Bosselman (I think). It gives you some sense of the style that characterized the Leighton cards as well as the majority of the other Pawtucket images (for which we haven’t any identification of the manufacturer):
