Title

June 19, 1912 A

Subject

Old Slater Mill, Pawtucket, R.I. First Cotton Mill in America

Description

Notes: "the long walk..." This may be the point at which Jennie, Olney, and Charles moved out of town to somewhere along the Madaket Road. No question that the coloring of the mill building is accurate – to this day. It should be possible to check on news reports of the fires in the Slater mill during this period. For Pawtucket, this mill will become its single most important historical site. This textile factory will launch the industrial revolution and the middle class lives that most of the descendants of Ben Cotton (the elder) would live. There are several instances in the collection where two cards were sent on the same day. In these cases the date on one card has been altered. The date for this card has been altered.
